In September the Third Congress of the European Society of Gynecological Robotics (SERGS) was held in Leuven (Belgium), where the Gynaecology Service of the HUB could present the excellent results achieved in implementing robotic surgery in high aortic-cava lymphadenectomy procedures.
This application represents a technology innovation in using the Da Vinci system for the surgical treatment of ovarian cancer and high-grade endometrial.
The development of this new surgical approach has been done entirely in our hospital thanks to the robotics staff of the Gynecology Department, including surgeons, anesthetists, nurses and engineers (PALEX).
The first advances were already selected for an oral presentation session at the World Congress of Robotics (WRGC III), held in Washington city last March.
The innovative and teaching position achieved in the field of Gynecologic Oncology Robotic Surgery by our Unit has led to the appointment of Dr. Jorge Ponce as member elect of the Board of the SERGS.
This places the Bellvitge University Hospital and IDIBELL as the first Spanish representatives at the front line of innovation of international robotic surgery - a recognition that makes us a reference center for teaching and development of robotic surgery with Da Vinci, and it opens doors to collaborate and lead new applications in a multidisciplinary work team of international scope.
