The second edition brings a hundred people together to discuss the current situation of entrepreneurship and financing of biomedicine.
Proposals, recommendations, ideas, suggestions. The second edition of Bioàgora meant a dose of confidence for investors and researchers who attended this meeting organized by Biopol’H in Hesperia Tower Hotel, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. Bioàgora 2010 was held on November, Tuesday 9th in order “to promote initiatives around biomedicine.” This is what Núria Marín, mayoress of the town, emphasized after highlighting the interest in promoting development and innovation in this field. In this sense, the mayoress found it necessary to strengthen the relationship between investors and researchers, so that projects “are not left undone but come to light, be developed and bring a profit.” Day after day biomedicine improves quality for everyone,” she added.
The conference, which had an attendance of about one hundred people, consisted of six presentations and a roundtable that were carried out by various experts in technology, legal, economic and scientific sectors. They all agreed to point out the high activity despite the economic downturn and also the fact that it is necessary to build confidence between all parts involved in project implementation.
Collaboration, internationalization and a new financing ecosystem were some of the key ideas put forward in the presentations. Joan Bellavista, managing director of XPCAT; Mercè Balcells, founder of MIT Programme in Spain; Josep Lluís Sanfeliu, co-founder of Ysisos Capital Partnerns; Lluís Pareras, leader of “Metge emprenedor” (“Entrepreneur doctor” programme) and Juan Pérez, director of La Salle Technova i Martín Rivas, Uninvest, went over the requirements, opportunities and critical factors of innovation and financing.
The high point of the day was the roundtable, moderated by the director of Biopol’H, Ramon López, in which legal, business and science experts took part to discuss what points to take into account to give a boost to innovation.
Advice in situ
What was new about Bioàgora 2010 compared to the first edition was the session of contacts and advice. Throughout the day there was a tour in the way to innovation where experts could advise attendees on all aspects with regard to entrepreneurship: technology, legal and financial issues. By means of two counseling and contacts sessions, participants had the chance to ask, discuss and finalize possible collaboration agreements with investors and experts.
