Cluster Session closes the Cutting Edge Biomedicine Meetings 2011 held in Biopol’H area

25/10/2011

The Cluster Session closes the Cutting Edge Biomedicine Meetings, the event that has gathered 500 scientists in nanomedicine, bioengineering and bioinformatics in the Biopol’H area for five days.  Innovation, research and the leading technology have been the protagonists of the IDIBELL Recomb Ricci congresses, the IBEC symposium on Bioengineering and Nanomedicine, and the Biopol’H-IBEC workshop “Nanomedicine for Healthy Aging”.

This closing ceremony has been characterized by the multidisciplinary of the speakers, conferences that tackled from human adaptation to areas of risk to photo acoustic images, going over some of the most common and destructive diseases in old age (stroke, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson) and the possibilities of new materials such as CNT (carbon nanotubes).

It was a total of six lectures at the Workshop on Biomedicine and Nanotechnology, with the health of the elderly as a reference. It had the collaboration of six professionals from research: Dr. Scott Parazynski (The Methodist Hospital Research Institute), Professor Laura Ballerini (University of Trieste), Dr. Jaume Campdelacreu (Bellvitge Hospital), Professor François Berger (LETI), Dr. Rober Lemor (CR Santec), and Professor Yuri Volkov (Trinity College Dublin).

The Cluster Session also included the presentation of Dr. Andrea Califano (University of Columbia) about the connection between research and clinical impact of biotechnology, and a talk about entrepreneurship in these leading sectors of the medical innovation, which was prepared by the company Knowledge Innovation Market Barcelona.

The closing ceremony was attended by Núria Marín, mayoress of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat; Josep Antoni Bombí, Chairman of the Biopol’H Advisory Board, and Carles Miquel, Head of the Research and Innovation in Health Science Program, Generalitat of Catalonia.
