16/05/2011

The Consortium Biopol’H collaborates with Sant Josep Cultural Centre in the activity Pessics de Ciència (Pieces of Science). In an effort to promote science, Biopol'H participated in the May 11 edition with a lecture by Dr Montserrat Martín-Baranera, research director at the Holistic Health Consortium (CSI), where she coordinates the group of clinical and epidemiological cardiovascular research. The CSI is one of the entities which Biopol'H area is made up of and this time the consortium wanted to contribute to the popularization of science by means of its research director.

Under the title ‘Cardiovascular risk and major preventable factors. Basic concepts and current situation in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat’, the conference tackled the issue of cardiovascular diseases - one of the leading causes of mortality and disability - which are responsible for nearly 17 million deaths worldwide every year. They also set out current data on the situation of various cardiovascular risk factors in the population of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Pessics de Ciència

Pessics de Ciència (Pieces of Science) is an initiative of Sant Josep Cultural Centre, whose primary goal is to culturally promote the area located halfway between Sant Josep and Central districts. This activity is currently supported by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the consistent collaboration between KUBS Divulgació and the Consortium Biopol'H of L'Hospitalet. Some of the objectives posed by this initiative are: to encourage interest in science and bring it to public actively and comprehensibly and also to stimulate scientific knowledge in all kinds of audiences, from children to seniors.
