The highlight of the survey to professionals of Biopol’H area

During the months of September and October 2010 a total of 659 professionals from the different entities involved in the Biopol’H area participated in the online survey led by Biopol’H, which had the technical direction of DEP Institute. It had the participation of personnel of the Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Institute of Diagnostic Imaging (IDI) and the University of Barcelona (UB).

The main goals of the study were to determine the personnel´s knowledge and opinion about Biopol’H, to analyze the opinions, perceptions and expectations in connection with the objectives and functioning of Biopol’H and so identify the needs and future proposals of these professionals.

Note that all professional profiles working in the Biopol'H area took part in the study. However, the participation was higher among the research staff (36.3%) followed by the administration and services staff (20.2%), the medical personnel (19.4%) and the nursery staff (19.1%).

The main conclusions of this study are as follows:

  1. The 96.5% of participants showed a favourable or very favourable opinion of Biopol’H. This positive opinion of the Biopol'H Project coexists with a low level of knowledge but also a great desire to know it better and feel as part of it.

  2. The Biopol'H is perceived primarily as a hub for knowledge transfer and the popularization of science, emphasizing the scientific component over the healthcare, social and educational dimensions.

  3. The business size of Biopol'H is the least known and one of the most unexpected benefits of being part of the Biopol'H area, at the other extreme of the scientific benefits.

  4. The creation and consolidation of networks are a very valued aspect. There is a great desire to establish strong professional relationships between the various entities comprising the Biopol'H area, giving great importance to the creation of mixed working groups (77.7% of responses) and systematic channels of communication (75.5% of responses)

In addition to a large network, Biopol'H is seen as a platform of support for knowledge. The most important benefit of being part of Biopol'H is the access to the most advanced technologies (74.8% of responses) and an ongoing training (72.2% of responses). Furthermore, according to the staff of the entities of Biopol’H, their main contributions are knowledge (85.7% of responses) and the experience of the human teams (73.9% of responses).
