The Health University of Barcelona Campus (HUBc) project has achieved the recognition of Campus of International Excellence (CIE) awarded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
Therefore, UB is the first and only general university of Spain having two campus of international excellence. In this sense, you may remember that UB – in common with UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) - also won this award last year with Barcelona Knowledge Campus (BKC).
University of Barcelona’s vice-chancellor, Doctor Dídac Ramírez, has expressed his joy and satisfaction for the recognition of the project. Moreover, he said that “it is much harder for a historical and large general university to reach excellence that it is for a small, modern and specialized one.” “Hence the reason for my double happiness,” affirmed the vice-chancellor.
What HUBc is
The University of Barcelona and almost thirty organizations more embrace the project Campus of International Excellence Health University of Barcelona Campus (HUBc), of which the main bloc are Medicine Campus – Hospital Clínic August Pi i Sunyer together with Sant Joan de Déu - and Bellvitge Health Sciences Campus together with BZ Barcelona Innovation Zone, an aggregation that aims to become a driving force in teaching, scientific, social and business activities related to Health Sciences in a multi-territorial environment. Among the entities having supported this project are IDIBELL (Bellvitge Institute of Biomedical Research), IDIBAPS (August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute), IDI (Diagnostic Imaging Institute), IBEC (Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia) and ICO (Catalan Institute of Oncology). Thus, Consortium Biopol’H has established itself as a quality and internationally renowned area. The fact that UB is a CIE gives the organizations forming Biopol’H an added value.
This project - including the complete cycle of training, research, medical care and transfer of health and productive sector - has a remarkable international outlook and a firm desire to have a bearing on the territory, being these the premises on which this proposal is based.
HUBc represents a comprehensive model that integrates all members to accomplish its goal: to improve people’s health. The relation between education, research centres linked to hospitals and the specific research centres pioneers in their areas of knowledge results in a strategic aggregation of top-notch institutions. This union is completed by the application of knowledge in the productive sphere, both as regards the creation of new economic activities and the consolidation of an industrial complex of biotechnology companies, medical technologies and biomedicine.
