A team of researchers from the Institute of Neuropathology at the University Hospital of Bellvitge led by Dr Isidre Ferrer has been honoured with the 12th award “Àmbit de la Vellesa” by the foundation Agrupació Mútua for the science-based research project untitled Cannabinoides y Alzheimer: potencial efecto terapéutico en un modelo animal de la enfermedad (Cannabinoids and Alzheimer’s: powerful therapeutic effect in an animal model of the disease).
This study will analyze the effect of chronic pharmacological stimulation in mice with non-psychoactive doses of cannabinoids (a chemical compound synthesized naturally or not by the cannabis plant). The prize, which was given along with 15,000 euro, recognizes the interest of this research and expresses the desire that might be the stimulus to promote further research to improve seniors´ quality of life.
