The General Hospital of L’Hospitalet (HGH) has added two new techniques of surgery for the improvement of the recovery time of patients.
On December 15 the Abdominal Wall and Laparoscopic Surgery Unit of the Surgery Service at the HGH first performed the outpatient single-port cholecystectomy in this hospital in collaboration with the anesthesiology service, the nursery staff from the operating room and from the outpatient surgery unit.
This intervention, which involves removing the gallbladder with calculi, is currently the least invasive, as it consists of only one incision in the navel instead of the three or four that are normally done to insert the instrumentation.
Excellent results have been obtained in terms of patient safety, postoperative pain and cosmetics since the technique of cholecystectomy with single-port was introduced in this service.
Teamwork is needed to perform this outpatient procedure, however, in order to have a postoperative recovery for the patient as painless and speedy as possible, so that the user can go home the same-day intervention.
In addition to this technique they have also introduced the laparoscopic surgery for the bile duct in a single time for those users who suffer from bile duct calculi apart from having calculi in the gallbladder.
The Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery Unit has performed a new technique for 6 months with which the patient is operated in a single time - without having to make prior extraction of bile duct calculi through endoscopic - putting, then, two procedures together in one with the consequent improvement of patients.
