A scientific study led by Genevieve Buckland and Carlos Alberto Gonzalez Svatetz from the Nutrition, Environment and Cancer Unit at ICO-IDIBELL has been the winner of the 23rd Ediciones Mayo Awards 2010 in the category of best Spanish article published in a foreign magazine.
The article, entitled "Adherence to a Mediterranean diet and Risk of gastric adenocarcinoma within the European Prospective Investigation Into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort study", was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Am J Clin Nutr 2010, 91:381 -90). The study demonstrates for the first time that the Mediterranean diet has significant protective effect against gastric cancer.
The award was conceded on May 18 during a ceremony in Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona.
