Biopol joins the Scientific Ring

23/12/2009

The chairman of the Executive Committee of the Biopol'H Consortium, Miquel Gomez, and the Director-General for Research of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Joan Roca, acting chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supercomputing Center of Catalonia (CESCA), have just signed the Framework Agreement on the Accession of the biocluster to the Scientific Ring (Anella Olímpica). This scientific network will connect the major European centers of knowledge generation, innovation and research.

The accession to this scientific ring by Biopol aims to provide value added services targeted to researchers and to the companies that comprise the biocluster. These entities will have access to the communications network of the scientific ring, will be able to use the high performance computing and will also have access, among others, to repositories such as TDX (Theses and Dissertations Online) .

The Scientific Ring (Anella Olímpica) is a high speed communications network created in 1993 by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation and it is managed by the Supercomputing Center of Catalonia (CESCA). It connects universities and major research centers in Catalonia and has a great capacity for data transmission between all the connected institutions, so that it facilitates the exchange of information, access to shared resources, the link with the national R&D network RedIRIS and with all the internationally recognized research networks. It also allows the use and development of broadband applications.

Apart from offering a high quality communication service, the connection to the Scientific Ring will allow Biopol to maintain a fluid dialogue with those society and business sectors that may be interested in the activities developed by the biocluster.
